BFC HPAI Outbreak Response Manual
The BFC Bird Flu Control GmbH technical team is currently working on guidelines and procedures for outbreak response, which will provide a framework for practical application of HPAI outbreak response.
The manual covers a variety of subjects from a practical perspective, mainly focusing on outbreak response. Next to that, it explains a wide variety of activities required prior, during and after an outbreak.
It is written by our specialists and experts, targeting on specialists, experts and responders working for government organizations involved in outbreak response management, veterinary services and animal and human health professionals involved but who do not have extensive experience in outbreak response.
It is therefore not an academic report, but a guide for government staff and personnel who will play a role in responding to outbreaks as they occur.
It is written so that the reader need not be an expert in a particular field to understand the tasks required and how the different disciplines are related to each other.
It brings together international best practices in a wide array of technical areas and ideas.
It continues to be a work in progress. As new methods are described, discovered and found useful by our staff, additional sections and standard operating procedures will be added to the manual.
Although it is recognized that most governments don’t have sufficient human or material resources necessary to implement all aspects of the comprehensive program outlined, the manual provides targets for improvement within veterinary and human health structures and provides ideas that can be adapted for the situation and examples to improve preparedness on national, regional and local levels.
